The Rivers State Government has expressed its readiness to host the upcoming Civil Service Games in the state.
The competition which is scheduled to hold in four major sports facilities in the state, which include: Chief Adokie Amaesimaka Stadium, General Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Sharks Stadium and Port Harcourt Club, will commence from the 27th of November and ends on 5th of December, 2024.
Briefing media men at the event, Mr. George Nweke, Head of Service, Rivers State Government, enumerated on the expected benefits of hosting the games, which he hinged on short and long term benefits to the the people of the state.
The HOS, also disclosed that the State Government, under the able leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has made all that are required to make the event a success, available.
While enumerating on the economic benefits of the event at the end, Mr. Nweke lauded the effort of the state governor, pointing out that his gesture on the event, was an indication of his love and support for national development.
Giving an insight on what the event is all about, Mr. Aloku Amaebi, President, Federation of Civil Service Games, said the games was first held in Rivers State during the administration of Sir Peter Odili, as the governor of Rivers State and to be hosted again by government of Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
Mr. Amaebi in the meantime, thanked the Rivers State Governor, for his approval to host the Civil Service Games.
The President, who disclosed that there will be 16 events in the course of the games, noted that they have specific events for Para- athletes in darts, amongst others.
He was of the view that the games will provide an opportunity for younger civil servants who may have participated in the game and did well, to be moved to the National Sports Festival, to continue from there.
The Secretary to the State Government of Rivers State, Hon. Tammy Danago in his message from the state governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, lauded the President, Federation of Civil Service Games, Mr. Aloku Amaebi, for chosing Rivers State as the host of the games.
He affirmed the governor’s approval to host the games in the state, adding that everything has been put in place to have a successful and ‘Simplified’ event in the state by Governor Fubara.
The SSG who said he was asked by the state governor to thank the Federation of Civil Service Games, assured that they will take advantage of the games to bring to bear, the hospitality which Rivers State is known for, among others.
