History has been made in Agwa, LGA of Imo State, as 30 widows received the sum of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000:00) respectively, from Hon. Dr. Louis Nonye Obodo’s Christmas Bonus.

The nominees/beneficiaries were selected from the nine (9) towns and Aro in Agwa Clan, through a Committee headed by Dr. Mrs. Dorothy Utazi, President/Women Leader, Agwa Central Union (ACU), Women Wing.

Speaking on the Christmas Bonus initiative, the donor, who was a former Caretaker Chairman, Oguta LGA and a practicing doctor, Hon. Dr. Louis Nonye Obodo said: “On 25th December, 2024, I pledged to help a few Agwa women start a business, and asked for nominations.

“I was really awed by the numbers that came in, and I sought for advice from some Agwa leaders, where we agreed and set up a committee through the ACU Women Wing, led by the ACU Women Wing President, Dr. Mrs. Dorothy Utazi.

“The committee members were:
Hon. Chief Mrs. Rufina Emedurunwa ( Chairman, Committee on Touching The Lives Of Indigent Widows); Mrs. Faith Nwanochi ( Member Touching The Lives Of Indigent Wdows);
Mrs. Anatah Chizoba (Member Nomination Committee) and
Dr. Mrs. Utazi Dorothy ( National President/ Women Leader ACUWW).

“The Terms of Reference to the Committee were to: verifying the identity of those nominated, to be sure they meet the criteria set for the award, suggest the best way to reach out to the recipients and help guide them on judicious use of the money, follow-up on the recipients, such that those who make good use of their money can be supported in future, if need be.

“Based on the aforementioned, names were selected to benefit from the first phase.

“I enjoin those who nominated these people to reach out to Dr. Mrs. Utazi, with a view to providing the details towards receiving the money from now or before Monday, 27th January, 2025.

“With this, we expect that each recipient will receive the money on or before 31st January, 2025.

“When I intend to give gifts targeted at helping people to start something, I try as much as possible to avoid it getting to the people’s hands during the festive season, because when they receive it during those times, they also treat it festively and it will disappear.

“So, if you have someone on this list, encourage the person to start something with it. I assure you that those of them who do well with theirs, will surely get a reward by next year.

“Last January, I gave N50,000 to at least 20 people, but mostly relations, and as at this January, 3 of those are get 100,000 each, to support their businesses more.

“So, let them know there will be a feedback, and rewards will follow positive feedback by this time next year.” Dr. Obodo assured.
