Edo State: GTI Human Rights Activists Condemns Threat, Attack On Obi’s Life

The Guard Time Information (GTI) – Human Rights Activists Nationwide, has strongly condemned the reported threat and attack on the life of His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi in Edo State.

His Excellency Peter Obi

The group in a press release signed by its Chairman, Mr. Bibi Oduku said: “As a non-partisan human rights organization committed to the protection of democratic values, rule of law, and the fundamental rights of all Nigerians, GTI views any threat to the life of a political leader as a serious danger to our democracy and national peace.

“We therefore call on the newly appointed Inspector General of Police of the Nigeria Police Force to immediately deploy intelligence units to thoroughly investigate the alleged threat and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice without delay.

“Nigeria’s democracy must not be reduced to a battlefield of intimidation, harassment, or violence. Political parties and their supporters must understand that democracy thrives on healthy competition, issue-based campaigns, and respect for opposing views not hostility or personal attacks.

“Political rivalry should never translate into threats to life or acts capable of destabilizing our nation. Leaders across party lines must promote tolerance, dialogue, and peaceful engagement in the interest of national unity and development.

“GTI Human Rights Activists Nationwide wishes to make it clear that anyone found guilty, regardless of status or political affiliation, must face the full weight of the law. No individual is above the law, and justice must be served to deter future occurrences.

“We urge security agencies to act swiftly and professionally to reassure Nigerians that their safety and democratic rights remain protected.
Nigeria belongs to all of us. Let us safeguard it together,” Mr. Oduku stated.
