The President, League of Maritime Editors (LOME), Mrs. Remi Itie, has commended the Customs Area Comptroller (CAC) of Tin Can Command, Dera Nnadi and his management team, as well as officers and men of the Command, for their impressive achievements in revenue generation and anti-smuggling activities.
The League President gave the commendation during their courtesy visit, even as CAC Dera Nnadi disclosed that Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), recorded a total of N986.3billion in revenue collections between January and October 22, 2024.
The CAC however, described the above figure as very significant, considering the fact that the entire revenue collected in the Command in 2023 was N716.4billion.
Comptr. Nnadi, who spoke when he received the newly elected Executive Members of the League of Maritime Editors (LOME) on a courtesy visit, added that the Command also recorded massive seizures within the period under review.
He opined that the Duty Paid Value of the various seizures stood at N4.5billion.
According CAC Nnadi: “What this means is that even though the year has not ended, we have surpassed last year’s collection by N476bn.
On other seizures made by the Command, Comptr. Nnadi said: “This is also significant considering that within the period in 2023, we collected N1.51billion equivalent of items that were seized. It means we surpassed last year’s seizures figure by N3.4bn.” The CAC affirmed.
The Area Comptroller further lauded the CGC of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for giving officers of the Command all the necessary support and motivation that have helped in their overall achievements.
He, in the meantime, commended officers of the Command for their outstanding commitment to duty, as well as importers and their clearing agents, who paid the duties, adding that when citizens’ civic responsibility to revenue obligation and taxes are complied with, such society advances.
The CAC unequivocally affirmed that the management of Nigeria Customs Service ably led by CG Adeniyi is aware that the Federal Government relies so much on revenue from Nigeria Customs Service to offset some obligations to Nigerians, and that the NCS is very proud to contribute to this objective.
He added that the Customs Command is always ready to collaborate with traditional stakeholders in line with the tripartite fundamental pillars of the CGC, which anchored on: collaboration, consolidation and innovation.
He stated that every week, the Command chooses a new slogan to help motivate officers and men of the Command in their job, with the prevailing slogan such as “reform or regret.”

The new League President noted that she was not surprised that Nnadi has been performing creditably in Tin Can Island Port Command, considering his credentials over the years in addition to his impressive records when he was at Seme Border as the Customs Area Comptroller of the Command.
