43rd FEPSGA: GOV. Fubara Assures Athletes Of Secure, Conducive Environment 

The much awaited 43rd edition of the Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA) was officially declared open in Rivers State, with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, ably represented by his Deputy, Her Excellency, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, presiding over the colorful event. The games brings together contestants from across Nigeria to compete in the spirit of unity and camaraderie.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Fubara, Her Excellency Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, welcomed all participants to Rivers State, describing it as a land of peace, hospitality, and rich cultural heritage. The Governor assured the participants of the State’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for the success of the games.

In his address, the President of the Federation of Public Service Games, Mr Amaebi Aloku, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Fubara and the people of Rivers State for their generosity and enthusiasm in hosting the event. He emphasized the significance of the games in fostering national unity and healthy relationships among public servants which Rivers State hosted last in 2014 during the tenure of former Governor, Sir Dr. Peter Odili.

Dr. George Nweke, the Rivers State Head of Service who doubles as the Chairman Local Organizing Committee FEPSGA 2024, reaffirmed the State’s readiness to host the games. He highlighted that the event symbolizes unity, love, and sportsmanship and values deeply cherished in Rivers State.

The opening ceremony featured several memorable moments, including the lighting of the games torch by Her Excellency, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, symbolizing the commencement of the competition. A vibrant march-past by the contestants (various ministries) drew cheers from the crowd, with trophies awarded to the first, second, and third-place winners in the parade.

Adding a touch of culture and entertainment, the event showcased performances by the Abasa Cultural Group from Bonny LGA and the Port Harcourt Cultural Group, captivating the audience with their vibrant displays of Rivers State’s rich cultural traditions.

As the games progress, Rivers State continues to demonstrate its capacity to host national events with excellence, underscoring its reputation as a hub of peace, unity, and hospitality.
