The Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in charge of Zone ‘C’ Headquarters, PortHarcourt, has charged newly promoted Customs officers to see their promotions as a mandate for better service delivery.
ACG SK Galadima, who gave the charge at the Zonal Headquarters in PortHarcourt on the 29th of January, 2025 described the decoration ceremony as an “extraordinary moment in the careers of our esteemed officers in the Nigeria Customs Service.”
He noted that the day’s event was not to honour individuals or ranks, but to honour hard work, dedication and a warrant commitment to the service of the nation.
He noted that promotion alone is just a reward for past achievements that calls for greater responsibility, higher excellence and a renewed responsibility, pointing out as officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service, that they are the custodian of the Nigerian borders and guidance of trade facilitation and enforcers of physical policies.
ACG Galadima was of the view that the role of the Customs Service impacts on the fabrics of Nigeria’s security and economic growth, while commending the newly promoted officers for their deligence, perseverance and professionalism.
He further pointed out that the elevation of the newly promoted officers is a testimony to their integrity, hard work and alignment with the vision of Nigeria Customs Service.
He opined that the promotion may come with challenges, but advised that they inspire, uphold the values of accountability, transparency and efficiency, adding that they are not just representatives of the institution, but a role model to their colleagues and younger officers, who aspire to follow their foot step.
He, in the meantime, urged the newly promoted officers to remember that leadership is not about power, but service and making decisions that align with the greater good and subsequent team work, and leading example.
He used the medium to appreciate the immediate families and relatives of the newly promoted officers for the support to their husbands and wives in the course of their services to the nation.
He equally thanked the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and his management team for their policies that serve as their guiding principles.
He equally appreciated Mr. Mike Ebeatu, ANLCA Chairman, Onne Seaport chapter for his magnanimity in the course of the ceremony.
Out of the 17 Assistant Comptrollers (ACs) that were promoted to the rank of Deputy Comptrollers (DCs), 14 DCs were said to have emerged from Onne Area II Command, making it the highest in the history of officers’ promoted in a Command.
Other officers were promoted from the ranks of SC to CSC, CSC to AC, among others.
