Some politicians may have come and gone, and may have as well, played their part in the course of representing the good people of Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
Whatever achievement(s) that were made by the aforementioned politicians in the course of discharging their mandate as representatives of the constituency in their respective tenures, will in no doubt, speak for them at the ward and local government levels, even as they have finished their tenures in office.
But, the uniqueness of Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu as the Member representing the Oil-rich Kingdoms of Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, is that he is a first timer in the business of national politics. Yet, he was able to make notable impacts that have brought him honour and respect in the last two years.
In just two years of representing the Oil-rich Kingdoms in Imo State at the National Assembly, Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu who was inaugurated as a federal lawmaker alongside others on the 13th of June, 2023, has distinguished himself in the business of the Green Chambers, which earned him the position of: Chairman, House Committee on Regional Development and member of other House Committees.
Today, the giant achievements of Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu in the last two years in his constituency are numerous to mention. Numerous in the sense that before his Mega Empowerment that quaked his constituency and the state in general, had carried out several empowerment programmes at various wards in his constituency.
On the 4th of January, 2025, Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu held his first Constituency Briefing themed: “My Journey So Far At The National Assembly.” The event which was held at Oru West LGA Headquarters, provided the opportunity for the Federal Lawmaker to present his performance score card to his constituents. The briefing was adjudged to be the first of its kind in the history the Federal Constituency.
At the Constituency Briefing, Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu enumerated on his various achievements, both at the National Assembly and in his constituent. Some of the achievements include, but not limited to the Bills and Motions he presented at the floor of the National Assembly.
Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu within one year plus of his representation, sponsored over six bills that passed their first reading at the floor of the House.
In the course of his quality representation at the National Assembly, Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu embarked and completed the following projects in the first one year plus of his journey at the National Assembly, which include: sharing of 1,700 improved palm seedlings to farmers, sharing of 18,000 improved cassava stems to farmers, distribution of relief materials to over 15,000 flood displaced persons or flood victims, distribution of palliative materials to over 500 households affected by insecurity in Izombe, Oguta LGA.
He further distributed palliative materials to over 300 households in Agwa, Oguta LGA; distribution of palliative materials to victims of oil bunkering explosion in Obitti/Mgbuisii Ohaji and distribution of palliative materials to victims of oil bunkering explosion in Awara/Ikwerede Ohaji, among others.
It was at the Constituency Briefing that the ‘Eugene of Imo Politics’ spoke on an impending Mega Empowerment programme, which according to him, would be in collaboration with the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
Evidently, on the 1st of March, 2025, the much talked about Mega Empowerment programme took place at Mgbidi Township Stadium, Oru West LGA, Imo State, where all the 33 Ward Coordinators of APC and Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu in the Federal Constituency, went home with branded Mini buses, respectively.
At the event, a total of 37 Motorcycles were also given to 37 constituents, while a total of 81 constituents went home with a cash sum of five hundred thousand naira (500,000:00) each, to start up their respective businesses.
In the same vein, a total of 42 Sewing machines, 45 Grinding machines, 1,500 bags of different sizes of rice, and 120 pieces of Cooking stoves were as well, given to both men and women of his constituency at the ward level.
The outcome of the Mega Empowerment programme which was witnessed by the state governor, ably represented by his Deputy, Dr. Mrs. Chinyere Ekomaru, was lauded by Imo State Government, APC political party, politicians and various stakeholders in Imo State.
Today, various projects embarked upon by the House Member are already completed, some are nearing completion, while some are ongoing at various communities and wards in the constituency.
It is pertinent to note that the projects in Awarra Clan, which include: renovation of classroom block at Obogwe Community Primary School, construction of 6 Class-room block at Awarra Community Secondary School, registration of 42 students for 2025 WAEC examination, are already completed. While the construction of 1.5km road with double drainage system at Awarra are currently ongoing.
Other completed projects by the ‘Eugene of Imo Politics’ include: motorable solar powered borehole at Eziorsu, Oguta LGA; motorable solar powered borehole at Umuokwu Izombe, Oguta LGA; ultramodern classroom block at Otulu Community Secondary School, Oru West LGA; state of the art furnishings of classrooms at Otulu Community Secondary School, Oru West LGA; motorable solar powered borehole at Otulu Community Secondary School, Oru West LGA and modern ICT Centre at Otulu Community Secondary School, Oru West LGA.
The aforementioned projects, among others are courtesy of the promise made by Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu, during the Constituency Briefing, that those wards or communities that were yet to benefit from his projects, to be patient with him.
Little wonder the “Dorobuchi” and “Dangote” of the Oil-rich Kingdoms of Ohaji/ Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency, has continued to receive accolades from various schools like: Ohaji High School, Mgbirichi; Community Secondary School Awarra; Community Comprehensive Secondary School Abacheke-Egbema; Secondary Commercial School Assa; Nempi Secondary School Nempi, Oru West and Eziorsu Community Secondary School, among others, for the registration of about 2000 students that sat for the 2025 WAEC examination.
Other commendations came from the good people of Obuomadike Egbema, who saw the presence of Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu at their December 2024 Day Celebration as nostalgic.
For the people of Izombe, it was promise made and promise kept, as the Izombe Unity Cup Tournament annually sponsored by Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu ended with the discovery of young talented players by Coach Emmanuel Amunike of Heartland Football Club, Imo State, who was a special guest at the tournament, alongside the Commissioner for Youths, Imo State.
The Catholic Community in Izombe, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Izombe branch and Ohaji political stakeholders, among others, were not left out in the gale of commendations to Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu, for his exemplary leadership style.
It is indeed, not prejudice to say that the two years of Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu’s position as Member representing the good people of Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives; with regards to quality projects and empowerments, are true reflections of quality and Impactful representation as exemplified by Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu.
