Maritime Stakeholders, Others Celebrate Chris Obi’s Family As Wife Bags Doctorate Degree

Shortly after the convocation ceremony at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUOE) in Rumuolumini, Rivers State; maritime stakeholders, the academia, men and women from all walks of life, gathered at the Golden Tulip Hotel to celebrate one of their own, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Ifeyinwa Obi, JP, who bagged a Doctorate Degree.

Speaking at the event which was held on the 9th of May, 2026 in her honour, Hon. Dr. Mrs. Ifeyinwa Obi, who dedicated the success of her Doctorate Degree programme to her husband, Mr. Chris Obi, used the medium to recall her then family background, as the daughter of a school teacher.

She disclosed that her mother then, objected her marriage at the age of 17 years, adding that her personal conviction made her accept to marry Mr. Chris Obi.

In her words: “When Chris came to marry me at the age of 17 years, my mother who was a school teacher said no, but I said yes. Today, look at what that little girl of 17 years has become.

“First, let me thank you for changing my name from Ifeyinwa Ojukwu to Ifeyinwa Obi. My academic journeys from NCE, B’SC, PGD, M’BA, M’ED, PH’D and above all, I am now a grandmother. I say thank you,” Dr. Ifeyinwa said to her husband, Mr. Chris Obi.

Responding, Mr. Chris Obi, the MD/CEO, OCSY Nigeria Limited (Freight Forwarders) and husband to the celebrant, thanked God for the opportunity granted to his wife in the course of the programme.

Mr. Obi, who is equally the BoT Secretary of Imo Freight Forwarders Association of Nigerian (IFFAN), further apreciated his wife (Ifeyinwa) for making him proud, while using the medium to thank all and sundry members of Imo Freight Forwarders Association of Nigeria for their massive show of love, as well as other guests, for honouring their invitation.

He, in the meantime, prayed God to lead them safely back to their respective destinations, adding that celebration will never cease in their lives.

In the same vein, Mr. Ebuka Obi, one of the sons of Mr. & Mrs. Chris Obi, on behalf of his siblings, appreciated the guests for identifying and celebrating his mother on a special moment in her life and career.

He was optimistic that the reason for the gathering will no doubt, spur his mother to continue to impact on family and society at large.

The event witnessed the presence of personalities in the maritime industry and groups, which include: the Amazon, Erudite Scholars, the Thick & Thin, Ikeduru Sisters and Imo Freight Forwarders Association of Nigeria, among others.
